Checkered Past Racing Announces Ambitious Schedule for 2012

Friday, March 2nd, 2012

Chris Locke of Checkered Past Racing has informed fans through his website, www.CheckeredPastRacing.com, that this year’s racing schedule will be nearly as ambitious as the Professional Formula One calendar, giving fans of the awesome Lotus 76 the opportunity to see the car in person from the middle of March at Laguna Seca all the way until the end of November at the Circuit of the Americas in Austin, TX if the US Grand Prix is to happen there this year.

Fans of the Lotus 76 should be able to see the car… not in person, but greatly enlarged… sometime next year.

Chris’ stable of Loti now has an interloper in the form of a Formula 2 Chevron B39. Chris allowed the car to be campaigned last year its original driver Indycar racer Lyn St. James to the great delight of racing fans everywhere. Chris intends to use the car himself this year, not to the great delight of Lyn St. James. She may get another go if Chris gets too busy with his 76, or with Classic Team Lotus’ incredible Lotus 79.

A few highlights of the schedule include the normal races in Monterey and Napa, but also Monaco (pending acceptance), Portland, Limerock, both Goodwoods, and as mentioned before, perhaps the United States Grand Prix, if that event comes to pass.

We wish Chris luck in 2012!

Greater Hope Foundation Unveils New Logo and Colors to go with Fantastic Array of New Services for Children

Monday, January 30th, 2012

Greater Hope Foundation has a track record of being an incredibly successful Foster Family Agency operating in the high-need area of Barstow, California. Greater Hope Foundation puts children with loving families and gives those children a better chance for a more successful, happy life.

But recently, they’ve been growing. A lot.Greater Hope Foundation, Inc.

Greater Hope Foundation has unveiled its plans for Greater Hope Prep school, an innovative environment for young children to learn, explore, and be positively influenced. Also, last year Greater Hope Foundation launched a subsidiary business, All Clear Livescan, to assist and supplement their other businesses. All Clear Livescan is a service that fingerprints and uploads fingerprints for individuals requiring an “all clear”, whether it is to gain access to documents or to be allowed to be a foster parent.

These two services are in addition to the Foster Parent College, a training program for prospective foster parents, that Greater Hope Foundation has been working with for many years.

Most recently, Greater Hope Foundation announced it has the ability to support Supervised Visitations of non-custodial parents with their children.

After a call from a Greater Hope Foundation employee announcing that indeed Greater Hope Foundation would be able to expand its Foster Agency services into Riverside this year, GHF’s principle Helena Smith said, “I just keep getting good news” with a broad, bright smile indicative of all of the hard work that has gone into making all of this success possible.

To go along with all of the growth, the not-for-profit needed a facelift as its old monicker, Greater Hope Foundation for Children, was no longer reflective of all of the services the Foundation is engaged in. Thus, it is now Greater Hope Foundation, it has a new logo which WSmad designed and implemented on the site (which we originally designed and built), and we all decided it would be best to soften the blue of the site, which is now close to a “robin’s egg” blue.

The re-done site looks great and continues to perform extraordinarily well.

Congratulations from all of us at Web Site Maintenance And Design to everyone working their tails off at Greater Hope Foundation. We’re extremely pleased and very proud to be a small part of all that success.

Cook’s Doors & Windows Makes History: First to Get Vinyl Windows Approved in Palos Verdes Estates

Tuesday, January 24th, 2012

As residents of Palos Verdes Estates know, making what even small changes in a home remodel is incredibly difficult. PVE’s Art Jury must approve every tiny modification you consider, and most of the time, they’ll say no. You want to upgrade your roof from red-tile shingles to a more modern style? NO. You want to change the color of your home to be like Mr. Pine? NO. You want to improve your Cook's Gets Vinyl Windows Approved in Palos Verdes Estates, CAwindows insulation performance, lifetime, and keep your house’s historical look? NO…well… That is, until recently.

Jim Cook of Cook’s Windows & Doors, a South Bay company that has been fitting windows and doors in new homes and remodels for almost 90 years, has finally been able to make an upgrade during a remodel. Jim knew what it was going to take going in as he and his family have been residents on the Palos Verdes Peninsula for over 55 years. But since that’s what his customer wanted, Jim lowered his shoulder, gritted his teeth, and worked hard with the art jury and all of the architects and contractors involved, and put in late hours to make sure that’s what his customer got. Nobody else in his business has ever been able to do it. Or, they simply weren’t willing to work hard enough for it.

But Cook’s is. They do whatever it takes to make their customers happy.

There are some things the Palos Verdes Estates Art Jury simply won’t tolerate. But thanks to Cook’s, there’s one less item on the list. It’s an impressive feat, and Cook’s Doors and Windows were the first to do it.

Congrats Jim, Bob, and the whole Cook’s team! We celebrate your triumph of collaboration to help make Palos Verdes Estates home owners happier!

Michael Nolen of Sitecon Inc, is excited about the project. “Sitecon is performing all of the concrete scope of work for this project”, Mike told us, with a certain confident excitement in his words.

The miniature water recycling plant is the first of its kind in Southern California. It will treat 100,000 gallons of wastewater per day, saving 35 million gallons throughout a year’s use. That’s enough water for 220 houses, and it will save the City of Anaheim $70,000 annually.

Construction has already begun and the site is fully operational by March 2012.

Great work, Mike and Sitecon! Saving us all some taxpayer money and one of our world’s most precious resources – water – that’s something we can all get excited about!

John Delane Wins F1 Racing Championship in Tyrrell 40 Years After Sir Jackie Stewart, 50 Years After Phil Hill

Saturday, October 29th, 2011

In October 1971 Sir Jackie Stewart won the FIA World Driver’s Championship, Tyrrell won the World Constructor’s Championship

American John Delane celebrates his first overall Historic Formula One Championship

American John Delane celebrates his first overall Historic Formula One Championship

with Ford engines, and Francois Cevert won his only Grand Prix in Tyrrell 002.  It is October 2011 and American John Delane has put the Tyrrell-Ford name back in the headlines by winning the overall FIA Historic Formula One Championship in Tyrrell 002 by coming 3rd overall (1st in class) in Race 1 of the season finale Jarama, Spain.  It is also the 50th anniversary of Phil Hill’s Formula One World Championship, the first for an American driver.

13th FIA Championship for Delane

From Redondo Beach, California, Delane is among the most successful of historic racing’s FIA Driver Champions, competing Historic Formula One (HFO) in Ford-Cosworth powered Tyrrell Formula One racing cars and the Lurani Trophy for Formula Juniors in a Ford-powered Lotus 18.  In years past, he has competed HFO in Tyrrell 001 (which belongs to the late Ken Tyrrell’s family), and this year he campaigned his own 1971 Tyrrell chassis 002.

Delane has now accrued 7 FIA Class ‘A’ HFO Championships in Tyrrell 002 (2002 – ’07 and ’10) and now for the first time, the overall 2011 Historic Formula One Championship.  John Delane also locked up his third overall FIA Lurani Trophy (in addition to 2 Class ‘C’ Luranis) for Formula Juniors (the late 1950’s equivalent of today’s GP2 racing series) in Algarve, Portugal last weekend bringing his FIA Championship total to 13.  It is the first time an American has won the overall Historic Formula One Championship and the first time anyone has won two overall FIA historic Championships in the same year.

Much of Delane’s success can be attributed to the consistency of his cars’ performance provided by the excellent preparation of Hall & Hall of Lincolnshire, England.  They often bring Delane’s original Tyrrell transporter to the historic racing events – it still hauls the cars just as it did forty years ago.  Hall & Hall’s prep work allows Delane to run his cars hard.   Delane’s 1959 Lotus 18 Formula Junior is powered by an 1100cc Ford-Cosworth 105E motor.  In Historic Formula One, Delane’s Tyrrells are powered by the venerable 500bhp long-stroke 3.0 liter Ford-Cosworth DFV, just as in 1971.

Wanna Play? California Basketball Summer Pro League 2012 Is Getting Under Way!

Monday, August 15th, 2011

From the SummerProLeague.com Web Site:

SummerProLeague.com is Live

SummerProLeague.com is live!

“We are back! The original Southern California Summer Pro Basketball League was first established in 1970 by Dick Marquis. John Younesi acquired the SPL in 1992 and developed it into the place to see good quality summer professional basketball. The SPL showcase NBA sponsored teams who featured their 1st and 2nd year players and a combination of free agent teams with a mix of rookies and various unsigned players. Over 800 current and former NBA stars have participated in the SPL, including Magic Johnson, Andrew Bynum, Jordan Farmar, Danny Manning, Carmello Anthony and Kobe Bryant. The SPL helped professional basketball players and the amateur player who was on the cusp of professional careers to launch or hone their skills and gain exposure to professional scouts and agents, while providing basketball fans, as well as sports media outlets, a closer look at players playing in professional competition.”

After some time off, the Summer Pro League is back with the re-launch of their Web Site, www.SummerProLeague.com. Summer 2011 and all of the politics that went with sports this year are behind us, and it’s time to work on making a name for yourself, or find the best player at the best price possible for 2013, and by far the best way to scout in California will be the 2012 Summer Pro League.

Congratulations and welcome back, www.SummerProLeague.com. You may enjoy reading the full article from the site.
